Choosing a Foundation Bitch
Careful selection of a top-quality bitch is the key to all successful breeding. An old saying is that the "strength of your kennel lies in your bitches".
Research of pedigrees, books and going to shows will give you a good idea of what type of Akita you like. Find a kennel that is producing a "type" that is consistent, talk with breeders and owners, gain as much information as you can.
Try and collect information on the ancestors listed in the pedigree, it will give you an idea of what you bitch has the potential to reproduce, but remember that you still have to choose your bitches mate carefully to build
a strong bloodline of your own.

Candy" is Solid Rock's Chocolate Decadence. She is one of our homebred girls. Pictures above feature Candy at 3 months, 15 months and 22 months of age. We are very excited about how she is maturing. Neither of her parents are champions, but she has a very impressive pedigree, nonetheless. Her sire is Dakota, who's sire (Gater) is extremely heavily bred on Goshen bloodlines and is out of Goshen's Fire 'N Ice (seen on our Tribute page). Candy's dam is Regalia's Traces of Bronze; who is out of Regalia's Dick Tracy (Raja son) and O'PR/Codacan Cast in Bronze (Cassie), the number 1 akita bitch in '97; and was at one time the winningest akita bitch in the history of the breed. Cassie's sire was Goshen's Unbridled (Bronco), making her a Hoss granddaughter as well. Bronco was a littermate to Goshen's Lethal Weapon (Boss), who was sire to Kash (grandsire to Raja). Additional pedigree background info - Candy's sire, Dakota, is also a grandson of Atarashii's Hit and Run, who was extremely linebred on Widow Maker. Her sire was The Four Way Flasher O'BJ, a WM/Pacer grandson. Her dam was Atarashii's Trouble Maker - who was out of a WM/Pacer son (Maverick) bred to a WM/Coca Cola Cowgirl O'BJ daughter. Candy's grandsire, Dick Tracy, is a grandson of Regalia's Mountain Man - who was also a result of very close linebreeding on WM descendants. Candy is currently 25 inches, 100 lbs. OFA prelim clear

Sandy is maturing to be a very large, typey female. She has a straight, strong topline; wide, angulated rear; and great movement with good reach and drive. She is heavy linebred Goshen on the top side of her pedigree and heavy Regalia/Raja on the bottom side. Sandy is currently 26 3/4 inches, 100 lbs.

Honey is another one of our Goshen bloodlined girls. She has the typical easy going temperament and impressive size that her lineage is known for. She is going to be a large girl; already 25.5 inches at 11 months. She is currently going through a leggy stage, but is still showing solid type and structure even during this awkward stage. The bottom side of her pedigree is heavily linebred on old Goshen dogs; the top side goes back to some great old bloodlines as well; (for the veterans of the breed who remember Classic Akitas of Texas, owned and loved by the Dorsetts). Classic akitas were heavily lined on great O'BJ/Oki Yubi/Reb Hills dogs. We are happy to get a pinch of those old bloodlines which produced solid, traditional styled akitas. We are looking forward to watching her mature.
